HSG is seeking a dynamic and energetic candidate for full time employment as an Energy Analyst for NASA at the Langley Research Center (LaRC) in Hampton, Virginia. The position requires someone with the ability to work independently and interface directly with our NASA customer. The work involves cutting edge development of energy efficiency solutions in support of NASA and Prime Contractors working at the research center. Occasional travel is required.
Primary responsibilities for this position include:
Assist with identification, development, and implementation of energy/water projects and initiatives at Langley Research Center (LaRC); and tracking progress and energy/water savings results.
Examine LaRC facilities and operations, such as wind tunnels and other industrial facilities, and provide consultation to our customers on opportunities for improving energy/water efficiency or reducing consumption; conducting “walk-through audits” and drive-by field inspections of LaRC facilities to identify opportunities for energy and/or water conservation or efficiency.
Investigate water/energy conservation/efficiency and renewable energy initiatives, programs, and technologies employed at other Federal facilities or private sector; and assisting in determining suitability for implementation at LaRC.
Review and analyze trends in energy and water utilization data. Collect, compile, provide quality control review, and submit energy and water usage data for quarterly and annual reports. This includes walk-through and desktop ASHRAE Level I audits and energy audits for buildings that meet ASHRAE Level II audits.
Draft updates and revisions to energy/water policy documents, metric reports, project documentation, presentations, and plans, including LaRC’s “Energy Conservation Performance Plan.”
Review project specifications and designs to ensure compliance with applicable energy/water conservation regulations.
Develop and implement awareness/outreach efforts for LaRC personnel; providing training, drafting articles to encourage conservation, developing/updating information for the energy/water website, and leading outreach events such as Energy Action Month.
Assist with LaRC’s Energy Efficiency Team, including facilitating quarterly meetings, developing agendas/presentations, and recording meeting minutes.
Participate in the development and implementation of environmental outreach, training, and sustainability programs and provide support to other areas of the ESS contract as required (e.g. facility multi-media audits).
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related fields.
Demonstrated work experience in energy management.
Certified Energy Manager in Training (EMIT) or willing to seek company sponsored EMIT in the first six months of employment.
Demonstrated experience in performing energy audits on buildings and/or industrial facilities. Be adept at interpreting, managing, and analyzing data.
Strong technical writing skills and computer literacy, particularly with spreadsheets and databases, and demonstrated communication skills
Experience using energy metering, monitoring and analysis software/tools.
Must be a self-starting, multi-tasker with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a dynamic team.
Knowledge of HVAC, lighting, and industrial plant equipment.
Ability to gain and maintain clearance to work on a Federal government facility.
Valid driver’s license required
