About the Company

Our Telford based client is an import & distribution business specialising in dealing with international containers and deliveries. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Warehouse Supervisor to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising staff that are working in a busy and fast paced environment where deliveries are unloaded and stock is managed into specific locations efficiently to meet customer commitments and time frames.

Purpose of the Role

The Warehouse Supervisor will report directly to the Warehouse Operations Manager and oversee the day-to-day duties of the team, including the receipt and unloading of goods into sequenced order in preparation for being stored in various warehouse locations. You will lead a team of warehouse operatives by adopting a lead by example approach to ensure safe and efficient operations, optimising space and following the correct processes whilst maintaining inventory accuracy.

This role will require an excellent "can do" attitude and the ability to lead from the front as you will also be expected to assist the team in day to day duties to ensure targets are met.

*Please note: This is a hands on and physical role with heavy lifting included.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the warehouse team: goods-in, container emptying and storage.
  • Oversee the unloading of imported containers empty ensuring correct documentation, checks and safe handling.
  • Ensure inventory system accuracy, carry out regular cycle counts and stock audits.
  • Manage MHE (material handling equipment) operations: forklift, pallet trucks, ensuring all operators are observing H&S at all times and all equipment is maintained.
  • Monitor warehouse space usage, optimise storage locations, racking layouts and container positioning to maximise throughput.
  • Ensure all relevant health & safety standards, site housekeeping (5S) and security procedures are applied and documented.
  • Support continuous improvement: goods flow or storage and suggest or implement solutions.
  • Schedule and allocate tasks to warehouse staff, monitor performance, provide coaching/training.
  • Liaise closely with the management team.
  • Maintain accurate records: goods received notes, container paperwork, shipping/receiving logs, forklift/machine checks, stock movement records.
  • Drive team briefings and shift handover communications to ensure smooth operations.
  • Assist in planning for manpower, shifts and workload to cope with peaks (eg container arrival surges).

Requirements (Skills & Experience)

  • Valid forklift licence (counterbalance) and experience operating material handling equipment.
  • Proven experience as a Warehouse Supervisor in a fast-paced distribution/import/export environment.
  • Experience with containerised freight handling would be a strong plus.
  • Good working knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS), and proficiency with MS Excel/Word.
  • Strong leadership, people-management and communication skills; ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Good organisational and planning skills; able to prioritise workload and manage multiple streams (container arrivals, stock in/out, dispatch).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good problem-solving mindset; comfortable working in a changing environment with tight deadlines.
  • A sound knowledge of health & safety, manual handling, and warehouse best practices.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours (shift patterns may include early starts or occasional weekend work) given the nature of container operations.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary.
  • Pension scheme.
  • Paid annual leave.
  • On-site parking.
  • Opportunities for training and career progression.
  • Working in a supportive and growing company with strong team culture.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday with flexibility for early starts/late finishes depending on container arrival times.
  • Occasional weekend work may be required during peak import/export periods.
