Interim Principal Planning Policy OfficerLocation: Portsmouth (Hybrid – Tuesdays in office) Rate: £60 per hour (Umbrella) Contract: InterimAn excellent interim opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Planning Policy Officer to play a key role in shaping the future development of a major UK city.You will take a leading role in the Local Plan examination process, contributing to the delivery of a long-term development strategy and representing the authority at hearings.Key Responsibilities

• Lead on key aspects of Local Plan preparation, review, and examination
• Represent the authority at examination hearings and planning forums
• Produce evidence, written representations, and policy documentation
• Undertake research and analysis to inform planning policy
• Respond to planning legislation, consultations, and policy changes
• Work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders
• Support and mentor junior planning staff

About YouYou will be an experienced planning professional with strong policy expertise and the ability to operate at a senior level.Essential:

• Degree in Town Planning or equivalent
• MRTPI qualified
• Strong experience in planning policy
• Local Plan examination experience
• Excellent analytical and communication skills

Experience in at least two of the following:

• Biodiversity and Green Infrastructure
• Habitat Regulations Assessment
• Climate Change
• Transport and Air Quality
• Infrastructure Delivery Planning
• Town Centres and Retail
