Temporary Site Manager - Structural Steel

Location: Essex / East London

Duration: Up to 8 weeks

Day Rate: £300 - £400

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Site Manager (Structural Steel) to oversee and manage on-site steel erection works on a short-term basis. This role is ideal for a hands-on site professional with a strong background in structural steel installation, lifting operations, and site coordination.

The Role

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will take full responsibility for the structural steel package on site, acting as the main point of contact and ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to specification.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day site operations for structural steel erection
• Ensure full compliance with UK H&S legislation (CDM 2015, LOLER, PUWER, etc.)
• Supervise and coordinate steel erectors, subcontractors, and site operatives
• Implement and enforce RAMS, lifting plans, and quality procedures
• Liaise with clients, main contractors, engineers, and inspectors
• Manage steel deliveries, offloading, and safe storage
• Monitor programme progress and report delays or site issues
• Maintain accurate site records (daily diaries, permits, inspections, deliveries)
• Ensure works comply with BS EN 1090 and CE / UKCA requirements
• Manage snagging, remedial works, and final handover
• Deliver toolbox talks and participate in H&S audits

Required Experience & Certifications

• NVQ Level 4 (or higher) in Construction Site Supervision
• Proven experience managing structural steel installation projects
• CSCS Gold or Black Card (Supervisor / Manager)
• First Aid at Work
• Temporary Works Supervisor or Coordinator
• SSSDS
• Lift Supervisor Certificate
• Erecting Gold Certificate

Key Skills & Competencies

• Strong leadership and site coordination skills
• Ability to read and interpret steel fabrication & erection drawings
• Solid knowledge of lifting operations, steel tolerances, bolted/welded connections
• Strong QA and documentation awareness
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and site systems (EIDA, Viewpoint, etc.)
• Ability to work to tight deadlines while maintaining safety and quality
