Associate Director – Structural Engineering
We are an established, independently owned consultancy providing integrated engineering, design and technical advisory services to the built environment. Our teams support clients across the full project lifecycle, drawing on experience from a wide range of development and infrastructure sectors.
As part of continued strategic growth, we are seeking an Associate Director–level Structural Engineer to play a key leadership role within our regional structural engineering business. This position will work closely with senior leadership to shape future direction, grow market presence and develop a high-performing local team.
This is a senior role for a commercially aware professional with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills and a proven ability to lead people, manage clients and win work. You will take ownership of complex structural engineering projects from early concept through to delivery, ensuring technical excellence, commercial performance and outstanding client outcomes.
The role offers exposure to a varied portfolio of new-build and refurbishment projects across sectors including residential, commercial, education, healthcare, research, industrial and mixed-use developments. You will contribute directly to the long-term success and evolution of the consultancy.
Key Responsibilities
Business Growth & Commercial Leadership
• Build and maintain strong client relationships at regional and national level
• Identify and pursue new opportunities, including cross-disciplinary work
• Contribute to bids, tenders and fee proposals
• Act as an ambassador for the business through networking and industry engagement
Project & Technical Leadership
• Lead structural engineering commissions from concept to completion
• Oversee design delivery, ensuring quality, compliance, programme and budget control
• Resolve complex engineering challenges with sound judgement and innovation
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
• Act as a principal client contact
• Communicate technical information clearly to varied audiences
• Lead and contribute to design team meetings
• Foster long-term relationships to support repeat business
Technical Governance & Quality
• Provide senior technical oversight and governance
• Review and approve design work
• Maintain compliance with legislation, standards and health & safety requirements
• Promote best practice, CPD and knowledge sharing
Team Leadership & Development
• Mentor and develop junior engineers
• Collaborate effectively across disciplines and offices
• Support a positive, inclusive and high-performing team culture
Skills & Experience
• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
• Chartered Engineer (ICE or IStructE)
• Typically 10+ years’ consultancy or client-facing experience
• Strong background in building structures
• Proficiency in structural analysis and design software
• Sound knowledge of UK standards and regulatory frameworks
• BIM experience; Revit familiarity beneficial
