A Long History with Flowers
Two-hundred years of horticulture - providing high quality flowers in the Midwest.
The Busch Family immigrated to the United States from Germany in the 1800's. Fred Busch began growing vegetables on Lyndale Avenue in Minneapolis. Then, in 1920, Bill, Fred, and Carl Busch, the second generation, moved the business to Golden Valley, Minnesota. There, they began growing flowers as well. Sixteen years later, Len Busch was born. He worked with his family at Busch Brothers for most of his childhood. After earning his degree in Floriculture at Ohio State University, he left Busch Bros in 1965 to begin what is now Len Busch Roses in Plymouth, MN. He began growing pompons in a modest 28,000 sq. foot greenhouse and it wasn't until 1969 that he started growing roses. Today the business is led by Len's son, Patrick Busch. He and his wife Diana along with their four children play an active role at Len Busch Roses. Their hope is to one day have another generation of Busch's to carry on the business.
Len Busch built the company with one driving focus - to provide his customers with the best quality flowers that could be produced. This philosophy has been core to our business and still is today. Now, almost fifty years later, the crops have changed but the focus on quality has not! Today, we produce Roses, Alstroemeria, Lilies, Tulips, Snapdragons, Gerberas, and Potted Flowering plants. In total, over 7 million stems and pots are produced and sold per year in 15 acres of greenhouses. In addition to our own production, we source flowers from around the world to provide our customers with a full line of the world's best flowers available and also carry a full line of floral supplies. We distribute our products from 100,000 square feet of distribution space and 30,000 square feet of refrigeration.
Today, providing unsurpassed quality and ease of doing business is our primary focus. To do so, we are implementing Lean Manufacturing tools to our culture. In mid 2008 we were awarded a $300,000 grant by the state of Minnesota to pay for training our management and staff in "Lean Green". The results of this are proving to be very positive. Our supervisors have learned effective new skills in how to create continuous improvement of productivity, quality, and consistency of their team's work. We have identified key aspects of quality and ease of doing business and track our performances weekly. It is everyone's job at Len Busch Roses to continuously improve our processes to provide our customers with the highest quality and greatest ease of doing business in our market. People buy flowers to add beauty to their homes and offices and to convey emotions to their loved ones. We are devoted to providing our customers with flowers that do this exceptionally well.
