Job Summary We are seeking a reliable School Farm Technician to oversee the daily care and welfare of our animal provision. This role involves delivering high standards of animal husbandry, maintaining safe and hygienic facilities, and supporting practical teaching and learning. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring a safe, well-organised and engaging land-based environment for students, staff and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out daily animal husbandry including feeding, watering, bedding, cleaning enclosures and land-based areas, and conducting routine health checks.
  • Administer treatments and preventative care as required, maintaining accurate welfare and movement records.
  • Maintain excellent standards of hygiene, sanitation and waste disposal across all animal and storage areas.
  • Monitor animal health and behaviour, reporting concerns promptly.
  • Manage stock control, including ordering feed and supplies.
  • Prepare animals, equipment and facilities for practical sessions and provide technical support to staff and learners.
  • Support the delivery of engaging educational sessions for students and visiting groups.
  • Ensure full compliance with health & safety, safeguarding and animal welfare regulations at all times.
  • Work flexibly, including supporting animal care during school holidays where required.

Person Specification (Summary)

  • Level 3 qualification in Agriculture or Animal Management (or equivalent).
  • Practical experience working with a range of animal species or within a farm environment.
  • Confident carrying out health checks and administering medication.
  • Strong organisational, communication and record-keeping skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Clean driving licence required.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
