EC&I Manager - Greater Manchester - Competitive Salary + Benefits - Multidisciplinary Process Engineering Consultancy

Our client is a growing, multidisciplinary engineering design consultancy delivering complex projects across the whisky distilling, chemical, and pharmaceutical sectors. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit an experienced EC&I Engineering Manager to lead and develop their Electrical, Control & Instrumentation capability.

This is a hands on leadership role, combining technical authority, people management, and commercial input. Initially, the position will be approximately 80% fee-earning, reducing over time as the department continues to grow.

The Role

As EC&I Engineering Manager, you will take responsibility for the leadership, technical governance, and delivery of EC&I engineering across multiple projects. You will work closely with Project Managers, clients, and senior stakeholders to ensure high-quality, compliant, and commercially successful outcomes.

Requirements

As EC&I Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for both technical leadership and team management across Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control disciplines within regulated process environments.

To be successful in this role, you should demonstrate competence in the following areas:

* Electrical, Control & Instrumentation design within process industries

* Acting as technical authority / design lead on EC&I projects

* Oversight of Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control systems and interfaces

* Hazardous area and regulated environments (e.g. ATEX, COMAH, GMP)

* Functional Safety awareness (BS EN 61508 / 61511)

* Review and approval of EC&I design deliverables

* Project planning, manhour estimation, and cost control

* Client-facing technical and commercial engagement

* Supporting bids, proposals, and scope development

Experience within chemical, pharmaceutical, distilling, oil & gas, or similarly regulated industries is highly desirable.

What You'll Bring

* Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related EC&I discipline

* Proven experience leading EC&I teams and managing engineers and designers

* Strong technical background across EC&I engineering

* Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams

* Commercial awareness and confidence contributing to proposals

* Strong communication skills with clients and senior stakeholders

Desirable

* Functional Safety experience (BS EN 61508 / 61511)

* TÜV Functional Safety certification or similar
