Rail Operative - Whatley

We're looking for a proactive, safety‑focused Rail Operative to support our operations at Whatley. If you thrive in a hands‑on environment, enjoy working with heavy plant, and take pride in keeping operations running smoothly and safely, this could be the perfect role for you.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Rail Operative, you'll play a vital role in the safe and efficient operation of our mobile and static rail plant. Your responsibilities will include:
Operational Duties
Safely operate and supervise rail mobile & static plant, including load-out and weighbridge operations.
Receive, store, load, and visually inspect trains and wagons entering and exiting the site.
Carry out small maintenance tasks, inspections, and general housekeeping across the plant.
Monitor rail freight, associated plant, and processes, resolving or reporting issues promptly.
Ensure rail assets are maintained, cleaned, and in good working order.
Safety & Compliance
Take responsibility for your own safety and that of others within the rail demarcation area.
Report all accidents, near misses, and hazards to your Supervisor/Manager.
Promote safe, efficient use of all site resources.
Support the creation of risk assessments and method statements for all activities.
Work strictly in line with company Health & Safety, Quality, Environmental and Compliance procedures.
Communication & Supervision
Work collaboratively with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Ensure appropriate staffing levels and supervision during rail activities.
Maintain work areas in a clean, safe, and organised condition.
What You'll Bring
EPIC & NVQ in mobile/static plant operation (essential).
Valid Safety Track Passport (essential).
A strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
A proactive attitude and willingness to get involved in all aspects of the operation.
