Head of Foundational Learning – English & ESOL

Location: Surrey Contract Type: Full-Time | Permanent

Are you a dynamic educational leader with a passion for inclusive learning and curriculum innovation? We’re seeking a strategic and inspiring Head of Foundational Learning – English & ESOL to lead and shape our provision across Supported Learning, Skills for Life, and vocational pathways. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on learners’ lives by driving excellence in teaching, learning, and progression.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Leadership & Development

  • Design and deliver clear progression pathways into employment, further education, and independent living
  • Champion the development of essential skills: English, maths, digital literacy, and personal growth
  • Ensure inclusive support for learners with additional needs, aligned with funding and assessment regulations
  • Collaborate with Marketing to promote curriculum offers to diverse and underrepresented communities

Quality Assurance & Improvement

  • Lead quality monitoring through observations, learning walks, and feedback systems
  • Drive the annual Self-Assessment Report and Quality Improvement Plan
  • Analyse performance data to identify and support ‘at risk’ learners
  • Oversee RARPA implementation and moderation for non-accredited learning
  • Ensure all learners have meaningful Personal Learning Plans

Staff Management & Development

  • Provide effective line management to Programme Managers, IAG Officers, ALS Coordinators, and academic staff
  • Foster a culture of continuous professional development and high performance
  • Manage staff deployment and workloads to meet strategic goals
  • Lead the Matrix accreditation process and IAG strategy implementation

Learner Experience & Customer Service

  • Oversee the learner journey from enrolment to progression, ensuring satisfaction and retention
  • Manage learner behaviour and attendance to support success
  • Monitor all aspects of the learner experience, including feedback and compliance

Safeguarding, Equality & General Duties

  • Promote and uphold Safeguarding, Prevent, Health & Safety, and Equality & Diversity policies
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required by Senior Management

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven leadership experience in English, ESOL, or foundational learning
  • Strong understanding of SEND, inclusive education, and learner support frameworks
  • Track record of driving curriculum innovation and quality improvement
  • Excellent communication, data analysis, and team management skills
  • Commitment to learner success and continuous improvement
