Location: Mazar-e-Sharif (MES) Airbase, Afghanistan, a secure NATO military base

Working Conditions:  Based in an operational theatre of war, with arduous conditions.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:


  • Previous record of developing solutions which meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Fully qualified Electrician with certified experience
  • Site based supervisory experience of at least 5 staff
  • Experience of working with UK Health & Safety legislation including a proven track record of identifying and understanding the actions required to resolve hazards and unsafe practices
  • Experience of working within an environmentally constrained regime
  • Knowledge and practical experience of airfield operations and services
  • IEE 17th Edition wiring regulation or equivalent
  • Proven ability of accepting responsibility and accountability of a team
  • Must be fluent in English language levels to a minimum of STANAG level 4444
  • Must be mentally and physically fit and be capable of passing a detailed medical examination
  • Must be capable of obtaining NATO Secret (NS) Security Clearance from their National Security Authority
  • Holder of a clean, valid, driving licence.


  • Be familiar with NATO, ICAO and ISO terminology
  • Experience of working on operations in austere remote sites or in developing nations
  • Familiar with or have experience of US/NATO airfield regulations
  • Competent user of standard Microsoft Office applications including Word for writing up reports
  • Proven ability of maintenance and repairs on High Voltage (HV) Airfield lighting systems
  • Experience of fault finding on AGL and control circuits
  • A base knowledge of HS&E requirements in line with AGL works
  • A proven track record of managing teams of mixed nationality and backgrounds.
  • Be familiar with or have held Authorised Person duties for AGL and/or LV/HV disciplines
  • Recognised AGL certification

Core Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Planning and Supervision of safe practise for all AGL maintenance work carried out at MES
  • Responsible for ensuring that all company staff entering the airside are in possession of appropriate driving and access permits or are accompanied 
  • Responsible for ensuring application and compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Ensure Safe Systems of Work are implemented including creating Permits to Work and training staff IAW JSP 375
  • Undertake activity specific Risk Assessments and produce mitigation Method Statements
  • Ensures delivery of assigned tasks in strict accordance with the client requirements and specifications in a timely manner
  • Ensuring the appropriate QA/QC and technical documentation is applied to and enforced on the various assigned tasks
  • Develop, implement and tailor a Planned Maintenance schedule
  • Responsible for ensuring that all scheduled and reactive AGL maintenance at MES, including routine maintenance and corrective repair is carried out to the appropriate SOPs by suitably qualified staff and in accordance with COMHKIA airfield procedures
