Teaching Assistant - SEN Support - Primary
Location: Portsmouth | Key Stages: 1 & 2 | Hours: Full-Time | Sector: Special Educational Needs (SEN)

GSL Education are currently seeking a committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Portsmouth. This full-time role is ideal for someone with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional learning needs and helping them thrive within a mainstream classroom environment.

The Role:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant (TA), you will work closely with pupils who require additional support due to a range of needs, including autism, speech and language difficulties, ADHD, and social, emotional, or behavioural challenges.

Your responsibilities will include:

1:1 and Group Support: Providing tailored assistance to individual pupils or small groups to help them engage with learning and school life.
Classroom Inclusion: Supporting teachers in adapting tasks and managing behaviour to ensure all pupils can access the curriculum.
Encouraging Development: Promoting emotional well-being, communication, and independence through consistent and nurturing support.
Collaborative Working: Liaising with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to implement effective support strategies.
Monitoring Progress: Observing and recording pupil achievements and behaviours, contributing to reviews and planning.
The Ideal Candidate Will:

Have experience working with children with special educational needs, either in a school or a similar setting.
Be calm, patient, and resilient, with a positive approach to overcoming challenges.
Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills.
Be flexible and able to adapt support to meet individual needs.
Hold a relevant qualification (e.g. Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent) - desirable but not essential.
