Duty/ Shift Manager – High Street Retail

Shifts: 7:30am – 5pm & 11:00am – 8:30pm
About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced and hands-on Duty Manager to take ownership of daily operations within our busy high street store. Serving a diverse local community, our store offers a broad range of ambient, fresh, and frozen products. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment and is passionate about customer service, team leadership, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Oversee the smooth running of day-to-day store operations, ensuring a clean, safe, and fully compliant environment.
- Manage core operational tasks including:
- Replenishment of ambient, fresh, and frozen products
- Preparation and cooking of hot food
- Cash handling and till operations
- Receiving deliveries and goods-in processes
- Date checking, reductions, and waste control
- Store cleaning and housekeeping
- Maintain strong stock management practices including rotation, storage, and loss prevention.
- Ensure high standards of product availability and visual presentation.
- Implement promotional activity to drive sales.
- Act as a key holder, responsible for opening and closing the store.
Team Management
- Lead, support, and inspire a team of store colleagues, creating a positive and productive working culture.
- Plan and manage staff rotas to ensure effective coverage at all times.
- Provide ongoing coaching, conduct performance reviews, and manage any disciplinary processes professionally.
Customer Service Excellence
- Champion exceptional customer service, ensuring customers receive a friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable experience.
- Resolve customer queries and complaints efficiently and professionally.
- Build strong relationships with customers and the wider community to enhance store reputation.
- Work proactively to achieve store sales, profit, and KPI targets including availability, waste reduction, and shrinkage.
- Monitor and control store budgets including wages, utilities, and operating costs.
- Provide accurate reporting of financial and operational performance to head office.

- Proven experience in a similar supervisory or management role within retail.
