Manchester's specialist education sector is evolving, our Bolton school is currently seeking grounded, resilient individuals to support students with SEMH needs. This isn't a standard classroom assistant role; it is a position for those who understand that behind every challenging behaviour is a communication need. You will work within a PRU environment, providing the stability and structure these young people require to re-engage with their education.

Your Responsibilities
  • Supporting the delivery of tailored learning activities designed for SEMH students.
  • Implementing consistent behaviour management strategies to maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Working one-to-one with students to de-escalate crisis situations and promote emotional regulation.
  • Assisting the Class Teacher in monitoring progress and adapting resources to meet individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Building professional, trusting relationships with students who may have had negative experiences with formal education.
  • Facilitating small group interventions to improve social skills and classroom engagement.
  • Collaborating with the wider school staff, including therapists and SENCOs, to ensure holistic support.
  • Providing detailed feedback on student engagement and academic participation during staff briefings.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working within an SEMH or PRU setting is highly desirable.
  • Confidence in managing complex and challenging behaviours effectively.
  • Availability for full-time hours (Monday to Friday) to ensure consistency for the students.
  • A calm, patient, and non-judgemental approach to student support.
  • Strong communication skills to liaise with both staff and vulnerable young people.
  • The ability to adapt quickly to changing situations within a fast-paced school environment.
  • Resilience and the commitment to supporting long-term student development.
