The Role – What You’ll Be Doing
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting children with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASD), ADHD, Speech & Language difficulties, and other learning disabilities. Your responsibilities will include:
? One-to-One & Small Group Support – Working closely with children who need additional assistance, helping them engage with learning activities and overcome challenges.? Adapting Learning Materials – Assisting teachers by tailoring lessons and resources to meet the specific needs of students.? Encouraging Social & Emotional Development – Supporting students in developing confidence, resilience, and positive relationships with peers.? Behaviour Management – Using positive reinforcement strategies to support students with emotional regulation and behaviour challenges.? Collaboration with SENCO & Teachers – Working alongside teachers and the SENCO to implement personalised education plans (EHCPs) and track student progress.? Supporting Personal Care (if required) – Assisting students with mobility, feeding, or toileting where necessary, ensuring their dignity and well-being.
About You – What We’re Looking For
Experience working with children with SEN (preferred but not essential)Patient, compassionate, and resilient with a strong sense of empathyExcellent communication and teamwork skillsA proactive approach and a passion for inclusive educationRelevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 3, Teaching Assistant qualification) – desirable but not essentialAn understanding of strategies to support children with SEN, such as Makaton, PECS, or de-escalation techniques (training can be provided)
