Goodman Masson are currently working with a social housing organisation in Sussex to recruit for an interim M&E Surveyor.
Rate - £250 - £300 a day INSIDE IR35 umbrella
About the Role
Reporting to the Compliance Manager, you’ll play a key role in delivering mechanical, electrical, and energy-related services across residential and non-residential buildings.
You’ll be responsible for managing contractors, overseeing works on-site, ensuring compliance with regulations, and contributing to energy efficiency and carbon reduction initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and supervise planned maintenance and responsive repairs, including:
- Electrical systems and testing
- Fire alarms and emergency lighting
- Lifts, door entry systems, and rewiring
- Mechanical plant and equipment
- Manage contractors and consultants, ensuring works are delivered:
- Safely
- On time
- Within budget
- To high quality standards
- Design, specify, and supervise M&E works in line with:
- Current legislation
- British Standards
- Industry best practice (e.g. CIBSE guidance)
- Lead on energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives, including:
- Carbon reduction projects
- Renewable technologies (e.g. solar PV)
- Energy performance assessments (EPCs, SAP calculations)
- Monitor energy usage and provide recommendations to improve efficiency and reduce fuel poverty.
- Support compliance activities, including:
- Legionella risk management
- Health & Safety inspections and reporting (including RIDDOR where required)
- Liaison with asbestos specialists
- Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and contract documentation.
- Monitor project budgets, valuations, and contractor payments.
- Carry out site inspections and ensure works meet required standards.
- Maintain accurate asset data and contribute to statutory reporting.
- Provide technical advice to internal teams, residents, and stakeholders.
About You
You’ll be a technically strong, proactive professional with a passion for delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality building services.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong experience in M&E maintenance and repair within housing or property
- Ability to diagnose faults across electrical and mechanical systems
- Experience managing contractors and supervising works on-site
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations (including electrical standards)
- Experience preparing specifications, reports, and technical documentation
- Budget monitoring and contract administration experience
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Qualifications
- HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical & Electrical Engineering or related field
- Relevant professional qualification or working towards (e.g. MIET or similar)
Desirable
- Experience in social housing or public sector environment
- Knowledge of energy efficiency standards and PAS 2035
- Experience with asset management systems and stock condition surveys
Additional Requirements
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel and work across multiple sites
- Occasional out-of-hours working may be required
