Job Title: HGV Technician
Location: Manchester
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced HGV Technician to join a busy site in Manchester. This hands-on role involves the servicing, maintenance, and repair of a fleet of 26 heavy goods vehicles, including breakdown cover and annual test preparation.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform routine servicing, inspections, and mechanical repairs on HGVs

*

Attend roadside breakdowns as required

*

Prepare and present vehicles for annual MOT testing

*

Effectively manage workload to minimise vehicle downtime

*

Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults

*

Accurately record services, repairs, and parts used

*

Follow all health and safety guidelines during maintenance procedures

Areas of Responsibility:

*

Carry out planned maintenance and ad hoc repairs

*

Diagnose faults across engine, electrical, and transmission systems

*

Perform welding and other mechanical tasks as required

*

Conduct inspections and mechanical testing

*

Replace or repair components in line with transport system standards

*

Provide guidance and support to apprentices or less experienced staff

*

Use appropriate power and hand tools for servicing and repairs

*

Willingness to work shifts and additional hours as needed to meet demand

Requirements:

*

Fully qualified HGV Mechanic with a minimum of 3 years' post-apprenticeship experience

*

Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities

*

High level of technical and product knowledge

*

Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and computer systems

*

Self-motivated and well-organised

*

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

*

Ability to follow instructions delivered verbally, in writing, or via diagrams

*

Experience with waste collection vehicles is advantageous
