Accounting Manager (Part-Qualified Accountant)

We are seeking a part-qualified Accountant / Accounting Manager with strong technical accounting skills and extensive hands-on experience using Xero. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven finance professional studying toward ACCA, CIMA, ACA (or equivalent) who is ready to take ownership of core accounting processes within a growing SaaS and services environment. Your accuracy, audit-ready mindset, and willingness to own both high-impact and occasionally tedious tasks will make you a key player in ensuring compliance, operational excellence, and reliable reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Ledger Management
- Prepare accurate financial statements in line with IFRS.
- Manage the general ledger in Xero, including month-end and year-end close.
- Perform monthly reconciliations across all key balance sheet accounts.
Accounts Payable, Receivable & Payments
- Process vendor payments and maintain supplier relationships.
- Support AP/AR cycles, including collections and payment runs.
- Opportunity to take ownership of customer invoicing once core tasks are mastered.
Accruals & Adjustments
- Prepare and post accruals (commissions, bonuses, revenue deferrals, prepaids, etc.).
VAT, PAYE, Payroll & Compliance
- Manage VAT and PAYE submissions via Xero.
- Support payroll in collaboration with an external advisor.
- Assist external tax advisors with annual tax returns.
- Provide documentation for the annual audit.
Financial Planning & Process Improvement
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Identify opportunities to enhance accounting workflows and reporting accuracy within Xero.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Requirements
- Part-qualified ACCA / CIMA / ACA (or equivalent), actively studying.
- Mandatory experience in SaaS (applications without this will not be considered).
- 3–5 years’ in-house accounting experience.
- Advanced Xero knowledge GL, VAT/PAYE, vendor payments, payroll support, reporting.
- Deep understanding of accruals, revenue recognition, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data manipulation).
- Strong attention to detail and high personal accountability.
- Knowledge of IFRS, UK GAAP, VAT, and PAYE.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- “Audit mentality” tie-outs, source verification, precision.
Critical Competencies
- Ownership mindset, including tedious or repetitive tasks.
- Ability to understand SaaS contract implications (ARR vs. setup revenue, revenue schedules).
- Strong accuracy with invoicing, commission calculations, revenue recognition, and sales data.
Nice-to-Haves
- VAT/PAYE/Payroll expertise (ability to bring processes fully in-house).
- FP&A interest, reporting, budgeting, forecasting.
- Experience with system migrations (e.g., SharePoint > HubSpot).
- Ability to lead audit processes.
