Our client is looking for a proactive Mechanical Design Engineer with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in building services to join their expanding team and contribute to the growth and success of the business. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and the ability to manage projects from conception through to completion.

You will be responsible for designing, and approving mechanical systems, conducting site surveys, and liaising with clients and stakeholders to ensure that project requirements are met on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical Design: Develop detailed mechanical design layouts for high quality commercial and residential buildings, including HVAC, ventilation, plumbing, heat pumps LTHW systems including pump sizing, pipework design and fire protection systems.
  • Site Surveys: Conduct independent site surveys to assess existing systems, gather technical data, and create detailed reports and schematics with actionable recommendations.
  • Experience with: Design of HVAC systems including, ASHP & GSHP (Heat Pumps), FCU’s (Fan Cooled Units and pipework distribution), MVHR (Ventilation and Heat Recovery), plate HE (Heat Exchangers), SWV (Soil Waste & Vent) systems, Gas distribution systems, vertical transportation, and Fire Protection systems including wet & dry risers, fire dampers, sprinkler systems and extraction schemes.
  • Energy Management: Familiar with BMS (Building Management systems) and controls. Integration of energy recovery systems and energy-efficient technologies, EPC. Renewable energy Systems including Solar PV, biomass boiler, wind power integration into mechanical designs. Low Carbon Systems, including design to meet regulations such as BREEAM, LEED, and Part L, F, G, B & M of the Building Regulations.
  • Client Liaison: Ability to confidently present design proposals and reports to clients, explaining technical aspects in clear, non-technical terms as well as ability to liaise with developers, architects, contractors, and designers.
  • Technical Drawings: Use AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar software to create accurate schematic and layout drawings of different stages of Plan of Work.
  • Project Management: Work closely with project managers, senior engineers, and other team members to ensure timely project delivery, adhering to all safety and regulatory standards.
  • Compliance: Ensure designs meet UK regulations and other industry standards and guidelines such as CIBSE guidelines and BSRIA guides.

Key Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Ideally to Masters level or working towards
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in building services mechanical design.
  • Experienced in using AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, BIM modelling, Bently building modelling, Elmhurst Energy Design SAP10 & SAP2012 and other design software relevant to mechanical engineering.
  • Strong current working experience of UK building regulations and standards.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical designs and reports to clients and stakeholders.
  • Relevant industry certifications or membership with professional bodies such as CIBSE or IMechE (or working towards it).

  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary design team.
