A well-established and forward-thinking secondary school in Barnet is seeking to appoint a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join its leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate and knowledgeable professional to lead and develop the school’s SEND provision and ensure that every student receives the support they need to succeed.

The successful candidate will play a key strategic role within the school, working closely with senior leaders, teachers, parents, and external agencies to deliver high-quality support for students with special educational needs and disabilities.

Key Role Information

  • Position: SENCO (Secondary)

  • Location: Barnet, North London

  • Salary: Leadership Scale – Outer London (dependent on experience)

  • Start Date: September 2026 or sooner if available

  • Contract: Permanent

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or equivalent qualification

  • Proven experience working within secondary school SEND provision

  • Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and current legislation

  • Experience leading interventions and supporting staff with inclusive teaching strategies

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the strategic development of SEND provision across the school

  • Identify, assess and support students with special educational needs and disabilities

  • Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure inclusive practice across departments

  • Manage and support the SEND team including teaching assistants and support staff

  • Liaise with parents, external agencies, and local authorities to ensure effective support plans

  • Monitor student progress and ensure high-quality intervention strategies are implemented

  • Deliver staff training to support inclusive classroom practice
