Operations & Distribution Manager Concrete

Glasgow | Salary £50,000 - £60,000 + bonus + company car

Lead with impact. Shape performance. Build strong teams.

At Heidelberg Materials UK, we know that the most successful operations are built on great people, inclusive leadership, and safe working environments. We're looking for an Operations & Distribution Manager who enjoys bringing teams together, improving how things work, and making a real difference to customers, colleagues and the business.

This is a senior leadership role with responsibility across operations, distribution, safety and people development, ideal for someone who enjoys variety, influence and the opportunity to lead beyond the day-to-day.

The Role

You'll be responsible for delivering safe, efficient and high‑quality operations across batching, distribution and office-based teams. Working closely with production, technical and commercial colleagues, you'll focus on continuous improvement, strong customer outcomes and developing high-performing, engaged teams. Clear communication, coaching and building trusted relationships - internally and externally - will be central to your success.

What You'll Be Responsible For
Health, Safety & Wellbeing

Safety is at the heart of everything we do.

  • Lead a strong, visible safety culture across operational and customer sites
  • Carry out safety audits, risk assessments and inspections
  • Ensure high-quality safety training for employees and drivers
  • Embed health, safety, legal, environmental and quality standards into daily operations
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including audit processes
Operations Leadership

You'll bring clarity, structure and calm leadership to complex operations.

  • Lead and support Remote Batching, Distribution, Internal Sales and Technical Support teams
  • Improve processes, communication and efficiency across departments
  • Ensure production targets and quality standards are consistently met
  • Partner with technical teams to deliver cost-effective customer solutions
  • Manage operational budgets, costs and purchase order compliance
  • Lead Plant Supervisors and the District Operations Supervisor with a supportive, coaching approach
Distribution & Customer Experience

You'll champion excellent service - even when things don't go to plan.

  • Plan daily and weekly customer orders in collaboration with sites and Customer Service
  • Resolve customer issues quickly and proactively
  • Embed a Right First Time approach to order accuracy
  • Deliver the QUOTIFIC customer experience: quoted, delivered and invoiced correctly
  • Use digital tools such as PEAK AI, CRM and Onsite to support performance
  • Manage fleet utilisation, transport availability and haulage costs
People & Talent Development

We're committed to growing careers - including yours.

  • Lead and develop team members through coaching, mentoring and training
  • Create and support Personal Action Plans aligned to individual strengths and career goals
  • Manage performance fairly, consistently and transparently
  • Promote collaboration and a one‑team mindset across functions
  • Ensure teams are well-trained, supported and resourced
  • Encourage multi-skilling and flexible capability across teams
Planning, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

You'll have space to think strategically, not just operationally.

  • Develop and deliver a detailed operational plan covering safety, service, quality and profit
  • Prepare monthly forecasts and performance reports
  • Contribute to regional strategy, planning and budgets
  • Analyse performance, identify improvement opportunities and take action
  • Reduce repeat service issues through root cause analysis
  • Track and report KPIs across operational and commercial performance
Financial Accountability
  • Accountability for Regional RCO budget (with the Area General Manager)
  • Management of distribution, haulage, variable and fixed costs
  • Support delivery of regional volume targets
  • Annual planning and forecasting for spares, repairs and maintenance
Why Join Heidelberg Materials UK?
  • A leadership role where your voice and ideas matter
  • Competitive salary, bonus and company car
  • A culture that values safety, inclusion, development and trust
  • Supportive leadership and opportunity for long-term career progression
  • The chance to lead meaningful change across a critical part of our business
