Job Specification: Maintenance Operative

Location:Wembley

Contract Type: Fixed term, 4 weeks

Working Pattern: 4 days per week

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and experienced Maintenance Operative to support the facilities team at The Helix, Wembley on a short-term contract. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on building maintenance experience who can quickly integrate into the site team and deliver high standards of repair and upkeep over the contract period.

Key ResponsibilitiesPlanned and Reactive Maintenance

• Carry out routine checks across the building and complete scheduled maintenance tasks.
• Respond promptly to reactive maintenance requests to ensure the building remains safe and operational.
• Complete minor repairs including basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating and simple electrical tasks that do not require qualifications.
• Monitor general building systems and escalate any issues that require specialist support.

General Estate Duties

• Assist with cleanliness and upkeep of plant rooms, maintenance areas and external spaces.
• Support small project works, moves and basic refurbishments.
• Liaise with external contractors attending the site to ensure smooth and safe access.

Customer Service and Communication

• Engage professionally with residents, colleagues and site management.
• Provide clear updates on maintenance tasks and flag any issues needing escalation.
• Work collaboratively with the wider facilities team.

Experience and RequirementsEssential Experience

• Previous experience in general building or property maintenance.
• Strong practical skills in basic repairs and problem-solving.
• Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks.

Requirements

• A clean, in-date DBS certificate is essential.
• Must have the right to work in the UK.
