Room Leader (Early Years / Nursery)
Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Room Leader to join our team and play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional care and education for children in our nursery. As a Room Leader, you will lead a team of practitioners, ensuring the highest standards of care and learning in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and motivated individual to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young children and their families.

Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
  • Lead, motivate, and support a team of practitioners within your designated room.
  • Act as a role model, demonstrating best practices in childcare and education.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support the professional development of staff.
  • Assist with staff inductions, training, and performance reviews.
  • Ensure staff-to-child ratios are maintained at all times.
Childcare & Learning
  • Plan and oversee engaging, age-appropriate activities aligned with the EYFS framework.
  • Monitor and support children’s learning and development, ensuring individual needs are met.
  • Maintain high standards in observations, assessments, and learning journeys.
  • Promote inclusive practices, including support for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Safeguarding & Welfare
  • Take a lead role in safeguarding and child protection within the room.
  • Ensure consistent adherence to nursery policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and stimulating environment for children.
  • Act promptly and professionally on any safeguarding concerns.
Partnership with Parents & Carers
  • Build strong, professional relationships with parents and carers.
  • Provide regular updates on children’s progress, development, and wellbeing.
  • Address parent queries and concerns with professionalism and care.
Operational Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the room, ensuring smooth running.
  • Maintain accurate records, registers, and documentation.
  • Manage room resources and equipment effectively.
  • Assist with planning staff rotas within the room, as required.
Teamwork & Wider Contribution
  • Collaborate with management to uphold and enhance nursery standards.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and contribute to the nursery’s development.
  • Support inspections and audits, including Ofsted evaluations.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture.
Qualifications
Essential
  • Full and relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification (or higher).
  • Proven experience working in an early years setting.
  • Experience leading or supervising a team (or readiness to step into a leadership role).
  • Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework.
  • Solid understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
Desirable
  • Level 4/5 qualification in Early Years or Leadership.
  • Paediatric First Aid certification.
  • Experience with Ofsted inspections.
  • Background in supporting staff development.
Day-to-Day
  • Lead and inspire your team to deliver high-quality care and education.
  • Plan and implement creative and engaging activities for children.
  • Monitor and document children’s progress, ensuring their individual needs are met.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, providing updates and addressing concerns.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and stimulating environment for children to thrive.
  • Support and mentor team members, fostering a collaborative and positive atmosphere.
