Location: Southampton 

Start Date: April 2026 onwards

Contract: Fixed term (until July 2026, with potential extension)

Hours: 08:30 - 15:00, Monday to Friday

Pay: £14-£16 per hour (depending on experience)

We are working with a supportive and inclusive school that is committed to meeting the needs of students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school provides a structured and nurturing environment, with a strong focus on wellbeing, behaviour support, and personalised learning.

About the Role

We are seeking a resilient and empathetic SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students who require additional help managing their emotions and behaviour in school, starting after April 2026.

This role involves working closely with students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, helping them to engage with learning, develop coping strategies, and build positive relationships within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide targeted support for students with SEMH needs

Build positive, trusting relationships to support emotional regulation

Assist students in accessing the curriculum and staying engaged in lessons

Implement behaviour support strategies and individual plans

Support de-escalation and manage challenging behaviour effectively

Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and pastoral teams

Monitor and record student progress and behaviour

Follow safeguarding, behaviour, and school policies at all times

Ideal Candidate

Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs

Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

Calm, patient, and resilient approach

Ability to build rapport and act as a positive role model

Good communication and teamwork skills

Understanding of trauma-informed practice (desirable)

Previous Teaching Assistant or similar experience is desirable
