Temporary Student Support Officer needed for this University School faculty based in East London.  

  • Job Type: Temporary - Full-time, based on site 

We are seeking a dedicated Student Support Officer. This role is crucial in enhancing student engagement and retention by working closely with the Student Engagement Manager, Senior Tutor, and Directors of Education. The successful candidate will lead the administration of the extenuating circumstances process and act as a liaison for student feedback, ensuring optimal support and maintaining high levels of student engagement and retention.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Collaborate with the Student Engagement Manager and Senior Tutor to implement the School’s student experience strategy, focusing on student engagement, retention, and success.
  • Manage the collection, tabulation, and dissemination of student engagement data, providing insights to academic colleagues to support at-risk students.
  • Administer the extenuating circumstances process and manage data related to student experience.
  • Document support needs for incoming students with disabilities and maintain regular contact with students resitting out of attendance.
  • Liaise with university services such as Advice and Counselling, and Disability and Dyslexia Services, to enhance student welfare and experience.
  • Develop and implement action plans in response to student surveys, focusing on the needs of diverse student groups.
  • Serve as a point of contact for Student Course Representatives and assist with the operation of the Staff Student Liaison Committee.
  • Oversee student records on the QMUL Student Record System (SITS) and ensure accuracy in module registrations and student data.
  • Participate in planning and delivering student engagement activities, including welcome week and student induction.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a student support role within an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of student engagement strategies and student welfare.
  • Excellent administrative and data management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with various stakeholders across the university.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Qualified mental health first aider or willingness to undertake relevant training.
