Provides leadership and direction of S&H activities Company -wide. Responsible for developing and implementing a safety and health management system (SHMS) focusing on the reduction, mitigation and control of work-related injuries and illnesses and associated workers' compensation costs;; assuring compliance with Federal, State and Provincial safety and health standards for the Global Company. Drives results by being a creative resource and passionate advocate of S &H.
Develops and monitors company-wide health and safety initiatives from the strategic level. Provides professional and technical support and advice as well as directs the desired safety objectives throughout the company. Coordinates and collaborates with Corporate Management, Senior Vice Presidents, Division and Plant Managers, Safety/Health Managers and Human Resource Managers, Engineers, and others to improve S & H performance. Maintains contact and works closely with the Workers' Compensation Insurance Carriers, and Insurance Broker to ensure quality claims management.
Bachelor's Degree or higher in safety or industrial hygiene.
Master's degree in safety, safety engineering, safety education or business with knowledge in risk management and finance is preferred.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene and/or Professional Engineer (PE).
10+ years at corporate level health and safety in chemical manufacturing or related manufacturing industries. This includes experience in plant manufacturing, packaging and shipping. The last 5 years should be at the corporate level of a medium to large manufacturing organization.
Work experience should include overseeing the S & H function at multiple facilities on a company-wide basis; conducted activities related to Corporate Social Responsibility and/or Sustainability.; strong technical ability to work, collaborate and negotiate with governmental agencies, consultants and other third party stakeholders. appropriated resources and support from Executive Management for the broader S & H function; interacted with Executive Management for all other functional roles to establish common goals; issued specific S & H direction and directives; managed subordinates; experienced in shaping and pursuing strategic vision, goals, and objectives.
