The Project Manager reports to the Senior IT Management team and is responsible for providing project management support for key application-development and production-systems enhancement initiatives. These projects involve both mainframe and distributed-systems technologies in the Workmen s Compensation and Property Casualty Insurance Industry.
Creating a project plan to fit the stakeholders/customers needs and deliver with-in budget on desired outcomes.
Guiding the success of projects and leading the cross-functional team that is responsible for implementation.
Estimating Projects by working with business resources, technology architects and other IT resources in order to create Top Down (e.g. - T-Shirt size) and Bottom Up (deliverable or task based) days and dollars estimate.
Leveraging the estimates with the skills required on a project to generate a detailed work plan encompassing all phases and resources items needed to deliver a project across the organization. The PM is expected to select an appropriate SDLC (e.g. - waterfall, agile, hybrid) for the project and layout the phases and resources to follow that process to deliver the expected benefits.
Monitoring project vs the plan, identifying course corrections that may be required and keeping project management deliverables (e.g. workplans, estimates) up to date as these changes occur.
Communicating status across these audiences in an efficient manner to ensure client expectations are in-line with project goals and objectives.
Be Hands-On: Successful project managers are hands-on with a willingness to dig-in and understand the business and how projects translate to systems and process impacts. Successful PM s engage fully in the solution design and review of key deliverables to make sure they stay aligned with the project objectives.
Identifies the people requirements and skill sets required to meet project goals.
Builds strong relationships between teams within the IT and related business teams.
Maintains professional relationships with peers in other corporations and outside organizations. Ensures effective and proactive communications to project stakeholders.
10 -12 years of strong project management experience focused in organizing, planning, and executing large-scale projects from vision through implementation, involving internal personnel, contractors, and vendors.
8-10 years of managing IT application and development teams.
Have experience in a combination of technologies including: COBOL, Power BI and SSRS (reporting tool), LUMINOS (Analytics platform), Azure (Microsoft cloud) and .NET
Background as a business analyst or programmer is a plus
PM can follow his/her own PM methodology (Pick what the PM think is "best" for the project ) -- Agile or Waterfall or mixed
Advanced understanding of project management methodology including the ability to identify and resolve issues, manage risk, develop detailed work plans and specifications, perform resource allocations and run team meetings.
Demonstrated effective relationship management and ability to influence key decision makers.
Strong vendor negotiation and partnering skills with experience in outsourcing and off-shore development.
