Technical Lead - Advanced Manufacturing Equipment (UK-Based)

An innovative and internationally focused engineering firm specialising in high-value machine tools for advanced manufacturing is seeking a Technical Lead to take ownership of the technical and organisational delivery of bespoke equipment projects.

The company's products combine laser and inkjet technologies with precision mechatronics and are used in both research and high-volume manufacturing environments, primarily within the semiconductor and energy sectors.

About the Role

As Technical Lead, you will play a pivotal role in delivering custom machinery projects from initial specification through to final commissioning. You'll work cross-functionally with R&D, Procurement, Finance, and Engineering teams to ensure successful outcomes on all fronts—technical, schedule, and budget.

Key Responsibilities

Project Oversight

* Collaborate with senior technical leadership to align projects with broader R&D and business objectives

* Define and manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables

* Identify and mitigate project risks including technical, logistical, and supply-chain issues

* Liaise with procurement and finance to ensure timely delivery and cost control

* Provide progress updates and risk reporting to management

Technical Leadership

* Guide the design and integration of mechanical, electrical, and software systems

* Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and performance standards

* Lead troubleshooting and resolution of technical challenges throughout the development cycle

Quality Assurance

* Implement testing protocols to validate machine performance and reliability

* Oversee compliance with industry standards and certifications

Qualifications & Experience

Education & Background

* Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering

* Minimum 5 years in a senior engineering role, ideally with complex machinery or automation systems

* Strong interdisciplinary knowledge across mechanical, electrical, and software domains

Skills & Attributes

* Exceptional project management and communication skills

* Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams

* Highly organised with a focus on quality and continuous improvement

* Experience with laser processing equipment is advantageous but not essential

* Willingness to travel occasionally (domestic & international)
