About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Finance, this role will take ownership of the monthly payroll process while supporting wider finance operations. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial processing, strong compliance, and efficient day-to-day running of the finance function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end payroll including PAYE, pensions, expenses, and statutory payments
  • Process starters, leavers, salary changes, overtime, and deductions
  • Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records
  • Prepare payroll reports, post journals, and ensure HMRC compliance
  • Keep processes updated in line with legislation
  • Resolve payroll queries promptly
  • Process invoices in line with approval procedures
  • Manage supplier payments and reconcile accounts
  • Monitor aged creditors
  • Process company card transactions and staff expenses
  • Reconcile income streams and post journals
  • Support improvements to finance processes and controls
  • Assist with general finance duties as required

Note: This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

About You

Essential:

  • Strong experience in end-to-end payroll
  • Purchase ledger experience
  • Experience posting journals
  • Proficiency in finance systems and Excel
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Desirable:

  • Broader finance department experience
  • Sage 50 and Sage Payroll knowledge
  • Experience in a charity or not-for-profit setting
  • Process improvement experience
  • Relevant qualification (e.g. AAT, CIPP)
