We are recruiting for an AAT Qualified Practice Accountant to join a growing accountancy practice supporting a broad portfolio of small business and individual clients.
This role would suit someone with solid experience in an accountancy practice environment who is confident handling day-to-day client work across accounts preparation, bookkeeping, VAT, and general compliance, while building strong client relationships and supporting the wider team.
The successful candidate will be organised, client-focused, and comfortable working across a varied portfolio.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
- Complete and review bookkeeping work for a range of clients
- Prepare and submit VAT returns
- Assist with the preparation of management accounts where required
- Support the preparation of personal tax returns and basic corporation tax work
- Liaise directly with clients by phone, email, and in person to resolve queries and request information
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records
- Work with cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, and Dext
- Liaise with HMRC and other relevant third parties where needed
- Help ensure work is completed accurately and in line with deadlines
- Support the wider team with ad hoc practice and client work as required
Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate will have:
- AAT qualification completed
- Previous experience working within an accountancy practice
- Good working knowledge of:
- accounts preparation
- bookkeeping
- VAT
- client-facing practice work
- Experience working with small business clients, including owner-managed businesses
- Confidence using cloud-based accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, and Dext
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- A professional and approachable manner with clients
- The ability to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Desirable- Experience preparing personal tax returns
- Exposure to corporation tax
- Experience with payroll or CIS
- Studying towards ACCA or another professional qualification, or interest in doing so
