Chief Technical Accountant – Local Government

Permanent | Full Time

A local government authority is seeking an experienced Chief Technical Accountant to lead its finance operations and drive long-term financial strategy.

The Role

You will oversee the organisation’s accountancy and exchequer functions, taking the lead on:

• Annual budget setting and Council Tax
• Medium-Term Financial Strategy
• Treasury Management
• Capital Strategy and Capital Programme
• Collection Fund accounting
• Procurement oversight and insurance management

You’ll work closely with senior leaders and Members, providing expert financial advice, producing business cases, and ensuring compliance with legislation and accounting standards.

About You

We’re looking for someone with:

• Strong technical expertise in local government finance or similar, large organisation environments
• Knowledge of CIPFA codes, treasury management, and statutory accounting
• Experience leading teams and influencing senior stakeholders
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
