An ambitious and highly regarded secondary school in Reading is recruiting an experienced and proactive Second in Department for Design & Technology. This role offers the chance to work closely with the Head of DT to lead curriculum innovation and support staff in delivering engaging and practical lessons.

About the School
The school has invested heavily in its DT facilities, which include state-of-the-art workshops for resistant materials, textiles, and food technology, as well as CAD/CAM suites. The department prides itself on combining creativity with technical skills and prepares students for GCSE and A-Level courses that are relevant and challenging.

Your Role

*

Support the Head of Department in the strategic planning and leadership of the DT faculty

*

Teach across all DT disciplines, including Product Design, Textiles, and Food Technology, to KS3-5

*

Lead on curriculum development, ensuring a broad, balanced, and progressive offer

*

Manage and mentor staff, including newly qualified teachers and support staff

*

Coordinate practical workshops, health and safety compliance, and resource management

*

Encourage student participation in design challenges, competitions, and STEM initiatives

Ideal Candidate

*

Qualified teacher with expertise in at least two DT specialisms

*

Experience teaching across KS3-KS5 with a strong record of improving outcomes

*

Leadership experience or ambition, with the ability to inspire and support colleagues

*

Passion for design, innovation, and hands-on learning

*

Strong organisational skills and commitment to health and safety standards
