Staff Accountant of Akron Non-Profit

 

 

The International Institute of Akron (IIA) seeks an experienced and motivated individual to serve in the capacity of staff accountant. IIA is looking for a proactive individual who has a demonstrated history of success in accounts receivable, accounts payable, commercial banking transactions, general ledger transactions, financial statement preparation, and other financial accounting transactions.

 

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and three or more years of general accounting experience. Experience with QuickBooks and experience working in non-profit accounting is highly preferred.  The ability to work as a part of a team and strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary.

STAFF ACCOUNTANT

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing accounts payable transactions, accounts receivable transactions, banking transactions, general ledger transactions, and assisting in preparing financial statements and other similar information for the organization. The Staff Accountant reports to IIA’s Director of Business/Operations and will serve as a valuable member of the accounting department whose primary purpose is to provide service and support to the employees and Directors of the organization in carrying out their service to our clients. 

 

 

 

  Duties and Responsibilities

 

Accounts Receivable

 

  • Prepare and send for payment, all interpreting and translation invoices.
  • Work with clients and service providers in obtaining service agreements, delivering friendly customer service to clients, and maintaining a positive work environment for all interpreters and translators.
  • Effectively use the interpreting and translating software system to manage the invoicing process.
  • Enter all invoices and receipts into the QuickBooks accounting system and generate all system generated reports for the use of the accounting department.
  • Continually review the interpreting and translating invoicing system to improve upon established methods and to maximize efficiency of overall invoicing.
  • Maintain and record all ACH transactions, automatic deposits, and other types of deposits to the organization and properly account for these banking transactions in the accounting software.
  • Work with the Director of Business/Operations in creating and sending for payment all forms of invoices to government and private foundation funders of the organization and entering these into QuickBooks.
  • Prepare periodic deposits for the organization.
  • Provide friendly and efficient support to employees across the organization in any accounts receivable related activity.

 

Accounts Payable

 

  • Pay all appropriate interpreting and translating contractors and maintain appropriate records in the QuickBooks accounting system.
  • Pay all other organizational invoices and enter the appropriate payment information into QuickBooks.
  • Maintain and record all ACH transfers, automatic payments, and other types of payments for the organization and properly account for these banking transactions in the accounting software.
  • Reconcile all bank statements and credit card statements
  • Work with the Director of Business/Operations in paying all reimbursements to employees or creating payment for any authorized obligation of the organization.
  • Provide friendly and efficient support to employees across the organization in any accounts payable related activity.

 

 

 

 

 

Program Management and Reporting

 

  • Assist the Director of Business/Operations in preparing grant budgets, preparing periodic financial reporting to grantors, preparing internal grant reports to Directors or other employees of the organization.
  • Assist the Director of Business/Operations in preparing organizational budgets and reports, as requested.
  • Assist the Director of Business/Operations in preparing organizational financial statements.
  • Assist the Director of Business/Operations in preparing finance committee and board materials for the organization.

 

Operational and Organizational Support

 

  • Provide backup and support to the Director of Business/Operations in duties related to human resource management, benefits administration, PC and network maintenance, building maintenance and repair, insurance administration, contract administration, and other similar operational areas of the organization.

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • The demonstrated ability and desire to provide support and to effectively serve clients, employees, Directors, and board members in carrying out the mission of the organization.
  • Good working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and their application to the nonprofit organization.
  • Experience with the QuickBooks accounting system and a strong ability to manipulate and provide data and information through Excel to persons without a financial background.
  • A broad knowledge of business administration and small business accounting and operations.
  • The ability to write clearly and to effectively communicate in all other forms.

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting
    • Three or more years of accounting related work experience.
    • Experience in serving others by performing accounting related work

 

  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Demonstrated experience in performing accounting duties for a nonprofit organization
    • Demonstrated experience with the QuickBooks accounting system
