?? Location: Reading?? Full-time | 52-week contract | 37 hours/week?? Salary: £25,584 – £28,000 initially on a temporary contract before becoming permanent?? Start Date: Week commencing 18th August??? Shift Patterns: 07:00–15:00 and 09:00–18:00

Are you a hands-on problem solver with a knack for keeping things running smoothly? We’re recruiting for experienced Caretakers / Maintenance Operatives to join a busy and vibrant school site in Reading. If you’re practical, proactive, and take pride in creating safe, well-maintained environments—this role is for you.

?? What You’ll Be Doing

• Carrying out general maintenance: plumbing, carpentry, painting, decorating
• Managing site security: unlocking/locking buildings, setting alarms, responding to call-outs
• Supporting room setups, portering, and grounds maintenance
• Supervising contractors to ensure safety and quality standards are met
• Performing ad hoc cleaning, drain clearing, and rubbish collection
• Maintaining the school pool and minibus (training provided)
• Replenishing hygiene supplies across the site
• Overseeing car park safety and student/visitor arrivals
• Operating commercial cleaning and maintenance equipment

? What You’ll Bring

• Strong practical skills in general repairs, carpentry, and plumbing
• Physically fit and confident with manual tasks (lifting, ladder use, etc.)
• Ability to prioritise tasks and stay organised in a busy environment
• Experience in a school or similar setting (desirable)
• Solid understanding of health & safety and safeguarding practices
• Flexible, reliable, and solutions-focused attitude
• Enhanced DBS (required)
