CAD Layout Designer

Location: Rochester, Kent

Hours: 7.00am - 3:30pm

We are seeking a skilled CAD Layout Designer to join a busy operations team within a manufacturing environment. This role plays a key part in transforming approved designs into accurate, detailed manufacturing drawings that support CNC punching, brake press and welding assembly processes.

The Role

You will be responsible for producing detailed sheet metal component drawings and preparing layouts for efficient factory manufacturing. Working closely with production and R&D teams, you will help ensure designs are accurate, manufacturable and optimised for material usage.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed sheet metal component drawings from approved layouts
• Programme and nest parts for CNC punching, ensuring minimal material waste
• Prepare drawings to support folding, assembly and welding processes
• Ensure all input information is correct to enable smooth downstream manufacturing
• Use CAD and CNC software packages efficiently and accurately
• Support continuous improvement initiatives alongside the R&D function
• Assist with the development and introduction of new product designs

About You

• Able to confidently read and interpret technical drawings
• Proficient in AutoCAD
• Experience using SolidWorks and 3D modelling tools
• Good understanding of CNC punch programming
• Working knowledge of brake press processes
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments
• Willing and able to learn new software packages and manufacturing processes

Desirable Experience

• Hands-on experience operating or programming CNC punch machines
• Previous manufacturing experience within a sheet metal environment
• Background or exposure to commercial kitchen ventilation systems
• Strong IT literacy
