Working Hours


• 8am - 5pm, Monday to Friday.


• 9am - 3.30pm will be worked as classroom support, with 8am - 9am and 3.30pm - 5pm to support with wrap-around care.


• Bus duties: mornings and afternoons as scheduled and as part of the wrap around care requirements.


Job Purpose

We are looking for an enthusiastic and warm individual who genuinely enjoys the company of children.

Working alongside teaching and support staff, you will provide additional support in the smooth operation of the Nursery, Junior School and wrap-around care provision. You will be responsible for actively assisting pupils across all curricular areas, providing support for teaching colleagues, and assisting in the organisation of resources and activities.

This is an ideal job for a graduate looking to gain experience prior to applying for primary teacher training.

The role is term time only and is for the 25/26 academic session, starting 18 August 2025 until 26 June 2026.

Main Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

Classroom and Curriculum Support:


• To encourage children to take an active part in the life of the school, to improve their own academic performance and to participate fully in the life of the Nursery/Junior School.


• Assist Nursery/Junior School and Support for Learning teachers in their planning and delivery lessons, as directed.


• Work individually and in small groups with children, using formative assessment to inform next steps, and in collaboration with the class teacher.


• To stimulate and encourage children to a high standard of interest and work, ensuring that the needs of each individual are met.


Pastoral Care and Wellbeing:


• To encourage children to take an active part in the life of the school, to improve their own academic performance and to participate fully in the life of the Nursery/Junior School.

Safeguarding and Child Protection:


• Act as a vigilant first responder: observe, record and report any concerns in line with the school’s Child Protection Policy.


• Follow clear pathways: report to the designated safeguarding lead (Head of Junior School and Nursery) and log concerns on the school’s safeguarding system and according to school policy.


Transitions and Wrap-Around Care:


• Help to plan and deliver engaging activities during before/after-school sessions, ensuring smooth hand-over to classroom teachers.


• Safely supervise arrivals/departures on school buses, adhering to the school’s procedures for this transitional section of the school day.


• Oversee snack/meal routines during playtime and lunch times, maintaining a high standard of food-hygiene standards.


• To support activities out-with the classroom, such as trips, visits or competitions which underpin and/or enhance the effective delivery of the curriculum.


Professionalism and Development:


• Engage in staff training as provided by the school through INSET and staff meetings.


• To engage with GTCS Code of Professionalism and Conduct and School Code of Conduct for staff and follow its guidance in all interactions, seeking advice as needed.


• Participate staff meetings and self-evaluation cycles.


• To keep abreast of relevant educational developments and to attend appropriate in-service training.



Ideal Candidate:

Person Specification

ESSENTIAL:


• Bachelor’s degree.


• Desire to work with nursery/primary aged children.


• Strong communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills.


• Reliable timekeeping and punctuality.


• Understanding of child protection/safeguarding procedures and the GTCS Code of Conduct.


• Flexibility for wrap around care, bus duties and school events.


DESIRABLE:


• Looking to achieve GTCS registration, or holding provisional or full GTCS registration.


• Experience of planning for teaching and learning within a curriculum in primary/nursery settings.


• Commitment to personal professional development, and responsive to the needs of the Nursery/Junior School team.


• First-aid and food hygiene qualifications (or willingness to train).


• Experience in wrap-around or after-school care, or similar.


• Familiarity with GTCS Professional Standards.


• Strong sense of team and a good sense of humour.
