Elevation Recruitment are working with a fast-paced engineering business is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of machinery and specialist systems.

This is a hands on role, ideal for someone with a strong practical engineering background who is comfortable working across the full product lifecycle, from concept through to build, test, and implementation.

• Design mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD
• Develop machinery and control systems, experience with pumps, valves, pipework, pneumatics, hydraulics etc. would be beneficial
• Produce detailed manufacturing drawings with appropriate tolerances and GD&T
• Work closely with workshop/production teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable
• Support prototype builds, testing, and fault finding
• Modify and improve existing designs based on performance feedback
• Assist with supplier liaison and component selection
• Ensure designs meet relevant industry standards and safety requirements

• Experience in a Mechanical Design Engineer position, ideally within machinery or similar
• Strong practical engineering background, ideally time-served machining/toolmaking beneficial
• Comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment
• Experience taking projects from concept through to completion

• Proficient in 3D CAD (e.g. SolidWorks, Inventor or similar)
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T
• Good knowledge of:
  • Machining and fabrication processes
  • Materials, fits, and tolerances
  • Assembly methods and real-world performance

Desirable experience:

• Pumps, valves, or pressure systems
• Pneumatics and/or hydraulics
• Special purpose machinery or general equipment design

• Basic understanding of motors, sensors, and wiring
• Awareness of control systems/automation (PLCs advantageous)
• Experience working with electromechanical systems
