Role Summary:

The main purpose of the role is to offer technical knowledge and input into resolving pensions related project work. Working with the team to support benefit calculation, remediation work and pensions regulatory changes.

The ideal candidate is someone already studying towards their Actuarial Exams and has demonstrated an interest within the pension industry. The role will consist of working alongside a team to produce calculations, calculation proformas, data analysis and calculation tool development.

Core Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • To support project work and help deliver as part of a team for regulatory change projects.
  • Attend internal and external client meetings with support. To act as a point of contact for our clients on relevant project issues
  • Engage with the wider Regulatory Change team and Data Services team on all aspects of service/project delivery.
  • High level of systems proficiency particularly in Excel and Word. Building knowledge of in-house build calculation tools
  • Work autonomously with established procedures and practise. Prioritising and organising workloads to ensure deadlines are met, and standards of delivery maintained.
  • Refer to process notes and technical documents as part of daily work. Refer to Project Consultant or Lead Project Consultant if documents are not available or missing content and work together to ensure robust documentation exists within the work undertaken for projects
  • Apply complex calculations and formulae, to calculate DB pension benefits.
  • High level of systems proficiency particularly in Excel and Word. Building knowledge of in-house build calculation tools.

Skills, Capabilities and Attributes:

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following experience, skills and behaviours:

  • Currently undertaking their actuarial studies and/or have a background of pensions administration or pensions experience. (With a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field)
  • Understand basic concepts of legislation.
  • Understand the basic pension scheme concepts and be able to define terms such as ERF/LRF/CF/GMP.
  • Carry out basic calculations of leaving service and retirement benefits with support.
  • Able to read and understand processes.
  • Highly proficient in all MS Office applications with intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel. Desirable, but not essential, knowledge of VBA and macros enabled functionality.
  • Strong analytical, numerical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills including written, verbal and face to face.
  • Able to work independently and use initiative.
  • Ability to deal with complex issues.
  • Able to work both in the detail of a complex task or at a higher level, depending on the requirements of the task.
  • Organisational skills to prioritise and organise workloads.
  • Self-motivated and ability to encourage others.
