KS2 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Year 6 (SEMH & Attachment Needs)

Milk Education are working in partnership with a warm, inclusive, and high-performing mainstream Primary School in the Liverpool (L5) area to recruit a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 6 pupil on a long-term basis (whole academic year). The role is set to begin in September, with the possibility of a trial day in July or early September.

This is a school that prides itself on being a happy, caring, and nurturing environment, with high expectations for behaviour and achievement.

About the Role:You will be working on a one-to-one basis with a Year 6 pupil who presents with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs and attachment difficulties. The pupil is currently working at a Lower KS2 academic level, so this role requires someone with empathy, adaptability, and a consistent approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support tailored to the pupil’s emotional, behavioural, and academic needs

  • Build and maintain a trusting relationship with the pupil using a trauma-informed approach

  • Implement strategies to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour

  • Assist the pupil in accessing learning across the curriculum, working at a Lower KS2 level

  • Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt lessons and deliver targeted interventions

  • Support the pupil in preparing for the transition to secondary school

Requirements:

  • Recent experience supporting pupils with SEMH and attachment needs

  • Experience working within KS2, ideally in a Year 6 setting

  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach to behaviour management

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills

  • Ability to follow teacher guidance while using initiative to respond to pupil needs
