Introduction/background:
The client is an engineering and building sector trade skills training provider founded 20 years ago and having approx. 20 employees. The founder now wants to progressively retire and so is seeking an interim MD to take over from him. Ideally for 6 to 12 months initially, leading to a permanent appointment.
The company has capacity to increase revenue. Huge demand is not being filled.
This is a business continuity and growth project.
The job role: Interim MD
Salary level: Approx. on target earnings £100k pa.

Key tasks
- Strong Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Translate client’s mission and long-term vision into actionable strategies and measurable outcomes.
- Lead the organisation through growth and transformation, ensuring alignment with industry trends and learner needs.
- Business Development
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and funding streams.
- Expand client’s market presence and learner recruitment through innovative outreach and engagement strategies.
- Act as the public face of client, building relationships with employers, community organisations, and educational partners.
- Operational Management
- Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency, Awarding Bodies compliance, and high standards across all departments.
- Implement systems and processes that support continuous improvement and scalability.
- Financial Oversight
- Ensure the financial health of the organisation through effective budgeting, forecasting, and resource management.
- Drive sustainable growth while maintaining accountability and transparency.
- Staff Development & Wellbeing
- Foster a positive organisational culture that prioritises staff wellbeing, professional development, and performance driven.
- Lead talent management initiatives to attract, retain, and develop high-performing tutoring team.
- Promote a culture of excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment.
Start Date: Early December
Location of project: East London
Duration: 6 to 12 months initially. Ideally temp to perm.
