Reporting to: Detective Sergeant / Deputy Controller - ROCU DSUOverview We are currently recruiting experienced individuals for the role of Covert Human Intelligence Source (CHIS) Handler to work within the Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU), with a focus on tackling Organised Immigration Crime.
This is a high-impact, sensitive role requiring exceptional discretion, a deep understanding of covert operations, and the ability to identify, recruit, and manage covert sources.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct high-level research to identify potential CHIS candidates
Recruit and manage CHIS in support of Organised Immigration Crime investigations
Produce clear, accurate, and high-quality intelligence reports
Ensure strict compliance with RIPA 2000, CPIA 1996, ECHR, and other relevant legislation
Maintain the highest level of operational security at all times
Participate in out-of-hours duties and provide broader support to the Dedicated Source Unit as requiredJob Activities
Work flexibly including evenings, weekends, and extended shifts where operational needs demand
Be part of a regular on-call rota
Maintain professional competencies including CHIS accreditation, staff protection, and first aid
Respond to changing operational demands at short noticeEssential Requirements
Current or recent CHIS Handler accreditation
Strong operational knowledge of RIPA, CPIA, and associated legislation
Experience in managing covert sources within high-risk environments
Full UK driving licence
Ability to achieve and maintain the necessary security vetting
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with strong integrity and discretionAdditional Information
