Led by innovation and new possibilities in data technology, we serve the wider transport sector with a suite of tailored engineering services, products and consultancy solutions. Due to continued growth, Fishbone is looking to strengthen our established engineering and products team to support the delivery of existing and new projects. We are looking for an Engineering Manager to help shape our growing team of engineering consultants and project engineers. This role is key to enhance the wide variety of our active projects, delivering project management, design and assurance expertise to our clients. We work across multiple transportation sectors with a strong history of railway infrastructure, rolling stock and automotive capability.
As our Engineering Manager you will work on the delivery of a range of exciting cross industry projects, providing expert advice on assigned projects and directly to the client. You will manage the delivery of your own work to the client and that of others within the Fishbone team to agreed timescale, cost and quality.
You will manage our team of engineering consultants and their portfolio of projects, providing guidance and mentorship to support project delivery and individual career progression, working in tandem with our Head of Engineering.
You will have freedom to shape your role and the opportunity to support Business Development projects and initiatives with our customers and internally, bringing your valued experience and network to the team.
* Work with clients to understand ultimate objectives and desired outcomes for projects.
* Work as an individual and as part of a team to lead and deliver project work packages to quality, time and budget and lead engineering activities where required.
* Ensure that scope of work, timescales, and budgets are clear, monitored and managed, and that risks to delivering to quality, on time and within budget are anticipated and managed.
* Ensure overall client satisfaction targets are met throughout the project lifecycle.
* Support other business functions with the development of clear project accounting management information for the projects and initiatives you are responsible for.
* Develop engineering reports and review reports produced by others in the team.
* Support the Business Development team to deliver proposals, identifying potential risks, devising the approach, specifying clear acceptance criteria, resourcing and costs for project delivery.
* Act as a mentor to developing engineers within the engineering team.
Qualifications required:
* Engineering Degree qualified is preferred but demonstration of relevant equivalent experience will also be considered.
* Chartered Engineer (or working towards) with a relevant engineering institution.
Technical expertise and skills required:
* Experience of managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams, with recent experience of successfully managing a portfolio of projects.
* Preferable proven consultancy experience.
* Preferable proven railway infrastructure and/or rolling stock experience, but other industry experience will be considered.
* Good commercial skills, with direct experience of delivery of engineering within a highly regulated transportation industry.
* Ability to demonstrate appropriate control of engineering change across varying complexities of projects.
* Proven experience of business development support activities such as developing customer relationships, proposal writing and commercial approach development.
* Capable and confident of leading, building and maintaining strong business relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Experience of managing hybrid teams, working as part of multi-company partnerships and managing supply chain partners.
* Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
* Proven experience of project management/engineering in different disciplines for projects of varying complexity.
* Good business data analysis skills, with the ability to adapt to using different analytics methods and tools.
* Fluent technical report writing ability.
