Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Housing Benefits Overpayments Officer to join our team on a full-time remote basis. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of Housing Benefit Overpayment legislation and proficiency in using One Revenues and Benefits software (Academy). This role involves managing overpayment cases, liaising with customers, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Respond to customer inquiries via telephone, email, and letter.
Monitor existing Housing Benefit overpayments, contacting customers to establish or amend payment plans and follow up on missed installments.
Utilize DWP systems (e.g., Searchlight) to trace customers and maximise overpayment recovery.
Review existing overpayments and make recommendations for write-offs.
Handle applications for Breathing Space, Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVAs), and Debt Relief Orders (DROs).
Process Personal Debt Payment (PDP) referrals.

Essential Skills and Experience

In-depth knowledge of Housing Benefit Overpayment legislation.
Proficiency in using One Revenues and Benefits software (Academy).
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to manage sensitive financial information with discretion.
Experience in customer service and debt recovery.

Desirable Attributes

Familiarity with DWP systems, particularly Searchlight.
Understanding of Breathing Space, IVAs, DROs, and PDP processes.
