Company: UBT
Job Type: Permanent, FullTime
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum
Description People Leader. Fixer. Planner. Doer. You’ll Be All That and More.
Royston | Full Time | £45,000 - £50,000
We’re supporting a small, independent timber business supplying heritage builders, conservation projects, and bespoke new builds across the UK. Every piece of timber they handle tells a story — and so does the way they work.
We’re looking for a hands-on Operations Manager to join their leadership team and help take the business to the next level. Think team leadership, process improvement, commercial thinking — and still being willing to jump on a milling machine when needed.
What the role involves: You’ll oversee all daily operations — from logistics and planning to stock, staff, and systems. You’ll work closely with the owner to implement better processes, support the team, and keep things running efficiently without losing the personal touch.
Day to day, you’ll: - Lead and support the small yard and operations team with clarity and care
- Oversee workflow planning, deliveries, stock control, and site organisation
- Manage machinery upkeep, vehicles, and scheduling
- Help roll out new systems (ERP/CRM) to streamline how we work
- Be a key part of recruitment, onboarding, and staff development
- Balance long-standing relationships with fresh operational thinking
- Stay grounded and hands-on in the day-to-day running of the site
Requirements - A strong people manager with natural leadership instincts
- Hands-on and practical — you’re not afraid to muck in when needed
- Experienced in operational roles in construction, timber, or manufacturing
- Calm under pressure, solution-focused, and commercially minded
- Confident with systems and ideally familiar with ERP/CRM rollouts
- Possibly someone who’s run a small business or worked closely with an owner
What’s on offer: - £45,000-£50,000 salary depending on experience
- A leadership role where you’ll genuinely shape how things run
- A values-led team that cares about quality, sustainability, and craft
- A respectful and relaxed working culture with clear responsibility
If you’re looking for a role with real responsibility, variety, and the chance to make things better — let’s chat.
