Staff Professional Development Officer (Interim)

Are you an experienced Learning & Development professional with a strong understanding of the FE sector? We’re recruiting an Interim Staff Professional Development Officer to support a large, multi-site college with a wide range of workforce development initiatives.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape high-quality staff development, influence strategic learning priorities, and play a key role in delivering impactful training and development across the organisation.

The Role

As the Staff Professional Development Officer, you will support the college’s strategic aims by designing, coordinating and delivering a comprehensive Learning & Development programme.

Key areas include onboarding, management development, training needs analysis, coaching programmes, and continuous improvement of staff development processes.

You will work closely with leaders, managers, and academic and professional services teams to ensure staff are skilled, supported, and aligned with organisational goals.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and deliver the annual Learning & Development programme, aligned to strategic college priorities.
  • Oversee and manage the mentoring scheme for newly appointed managers.
  • Conduct and coordinate Training Needs Analysis (TNA) and ensure learning solutions meet organisational need. 
  • Lead, facilitate and deliver staff onboarding, including systems training for new starters. 
  • Implement and manage a range of training methods such as coaching, mentoring and e-learning.
  • Create and develop e-learning packages and support digital learning approaches. 
  • Ensure accuracy of L&D data, carrying out audits and compliance checks. 
  • Manage the work of the Professional Development Coordinator and support wider Workforce Development activity. 
  • Support programmes around management development, work shadowing and AI-related training. 
  • Produce L&D impact reports and contribute to strategic workforce development reporting. 

Essential Requirements

To be successful, you will bring:

  • Experience working within the FE sector with knowledge of curriculum and staff development needs.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail. 
  • Excellent IT and data analysis skills, including Microsoft Office and management information systems. 
  • Strong communication and report-writing abilities.
  • Ability to work flexibly, independently, and under pressure to tight deadlines. 
  • A track record of achieving objectives and influencing others to drive improvement. 
  • Experience designing, implementing and evaluating learning or development solutions. Word]

  • Level 5 qualification in a relevant area.
