We are seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join on of our independent specialist school, providing high-quality, therapeutic, and child-centred education for pupils aged 11 to 17 years with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Our students may also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Support teachers in the classroom and work directly with children either 1:1 or in small groups.
- Manage classroom resources and engage in activities such as conducting science experiments, playing board games, and creating educational displays.
- Take an active role in school trips and visits, and manage heightened behaviours to ensure a safe environment.
- Participate in therapy sessions, reflect on challenging periods, and celebrate student successes.
- Contribute to decision-making processes that affect educational and therapeutic outcomes, bringing personal interests and passions to enhance our curriculum and extracurricular activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience supporting children with SEMH and other SEND in an educational setting.
- Resilient, persistent, and solution-focused attitude, capable of managing complex and challenging behaviours.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to use discretion while maintaining a non-judgmental approach.
- Flexibility to wear multiple hats and adapt to changing needs at a moment’s notice.
