Special Needs Teacher
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic SEND TA / Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Teaching Assistant in a supportive and therapeutic specialist school in St Helens.
The school caters for children in KS1 - KS3 who have communication difficulties. The students have various Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, ranging from MLD / Moderate Learning Difficulties to more complex and profound needs. The post requires an engaging, approachable, and talented SEND TA / Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Teaching Assistant who is dedicated to supporting children who are non-verbal.
All applicants must have a minimum of 6 months experience working with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and will be, ideally, trained to NVQ Level 3.
Due to the nature of the students attending the school, the role will require experience using Makaton and have basic British Sign Language / BSL skills.
You will need to feel confident within a classroom environment as well as on a 121 basis and be able to take direction from a class teacher.
The role will include:
- Assisting the teacher with classroom preparation
- Work with students who require additional support
- Leading group work
- Helping the class teacher with pupil observations
