Tradewind Recruitment are seeking a resilient and dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join a dynamic Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Barnet from September 2025.

This role offers the chance to work in a highly supportive setting with young people who have been excluded from mainstream education and present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, and challenging behaviour.

The Role:
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will be central to helping pupils re-engage with learning and develop the social and emotional skills needed to succeed. Responsibilities include:

Delivering 1:1 and small group interventions to support behaviour and learning

Implementing tailored behaviour management strategies, including de-escalation techniques

Encouraging positive choices, resilience, and self-esteem through mentoring and role-modelling

Supporting teaching staff in maintaining a calm, structured, and safe classroom environment

Building strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families to ensure joined-up support

What We're Looking For:

Previous experience working with young people in a PRU, SEMH school, alternative provision, or youth work setting

A calm, patient and confident approach when managing challenging behaviour

Strong communication, empathy and teamwork skills

Knowledge of trauma-informed practice is highly valued

Training such as Team Teach or MAPA is desirable (support can be provided)

An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply
