Skill Trainer – Bus & Premises Cleaning

A major London transport operator is expanding its cleaning function and is seeking a Skill Trainer within Cleaning to help raise standards and support the ongoing development of its in-house cleaning teams. This is a key operational role, directly contributing to improved safety, quality and consistency across the organisation’s cleaning operations.
About the Role
As the Skill Trainer, you will deliver structured, practical and standards-based training to ensure operatives are fully competent and confident in their roles. You will provide hands-on coaching, assess colleagues on-site and support managers in embedding best practice across all locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver induction, refresher and upskilling training for cleaning operatives
- Provide practical coaching on cleaning techniques, machinery, chemicals and PPE
- Ensure all training meets internal policies, COSHH requirements and Health & Safety legislation
- Conduct on-site performance assessments and support capability development
- Maintain accurate and auditable training and compliance records
- Advise managers on cleaning processes, safe systems of work and technical standards
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in methods and equipment
- Act as a role model for safety, professionalism and high standards
- Support incident reviews through targeted retraining
- Contribute to audits, quality reviews and improvement programmes
What We’re Looking For
You will be a confident and people-focused trainer with a knowledge of professional cleaning operations. Ideally, you will bring:
- Confidence and experience taking the lead on creation and delivery of both classroom and on-the-job training
- Experience in professional cleaning within transport, industrial or facilities sectors
- Understanding of cleaning techniques, machinery, chemicals and safety practices
- Excellent communication and coaching skills
- Working knowledge of COSHH, Health & Safety and environmental standards
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- A proactive approach and commitment to continuous improvement
Desirable Qualifications
- Train-the-Trainer qualification (or willingness to work towards)
- IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety certificate (or willingness to work towards)
- Recognised cleaning qualification (e.g., BICS, BCCA)
Working Pattern & Travel
- Based at a South London bus depot
- Regular travel across the organisation’s London sites is essential
