About the Role We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Maintenance Operative to join a vibrant Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) scheme in Elephant & Castle. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering an outstanding living experience for residents across a diverse, multi-tenure development.

Working closely with the on-site management team, you will be responsible for carrying out planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance, ensuring the building and its facilities are safe, compliant, and maintained to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to and resolve day-to-day maintenance issues across apartments and communal areas
  • Carry out basic plumbing, electrical, and general repair works
  • Support end-of-tenancy turnaround processes, including redecorating and repairs
  • Conduct regular inspections, building patrols, and health & safety checks
  • Complete mid-term and post-checkout inspections, ensuring timely follow-up actions
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and compliance checks
  • Assist with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and statutory testing (e.g. fire alarms, water checks)
  • Support contractor management, ensuring work is completed safely and to standard
  • Contribute to the overall upkeep of the estate, including external areas

About You

  • At least 2 years’ experience in general maintenance or domestic plumbing
  • NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing (or equivalent experience) preferred
  • Good working knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
  • Comfortable using systems and tools such as Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach
  • Flexible and willing to work weekends or public holidays when required

Desirable

  • 17th/18th Edition Electrical qualification
  • Experience in residential, student accommodation, or build-to-rent environments
  • IOSH or other Health & Safety qualifications

Working Pattern

  • 40 hours per week, 5 days out of 7
  • Primarily Monday to Friday, with flexibility required during peak periods (including weekends)
