About the Role We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Maintenance Operative to join a vibrant Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) scheme in Elephant & Castle. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering an outstanding living experience for residents across a diverse, multi-tenure development.
Working closely with the on-site management team, you will be responsible for carrying out planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance, ensuring the building and its facilities are safe, compliant, and maintained to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to and resolve day-to-day maintenance issues across apartments and communal areas
- Carry out basic plumbing, electrical, and general repair works
- Support end-of-tenancy turnaround processes, including redecorating and repairs
- Conduct regular inspections, building patrols, and health & safety checks
- Complete mid-term and post-checkout inspections, ensuring timely follow-up actions
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and compliance checks
- Assist with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and statutory testing (e.g. fire alarms, water checks)
- Support contractor management, ensuring work is completed safely and to standard
- Contribute to the overall upkeep of the estate, including external areas
About You
- At least 2 years’ experience in general maintenance or domestic plumbing
- NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing (or equivalent experience) preferred
- Good working knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical systems
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
- Comfortable using systems and tools such as Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused approach
- Flexible and willing to work weekends or public holidays when required
Desirable
- 17th/18th Edition Electrical qualification
- Experience in residential, student accommodation, or build-to-rent environments
- IOSH or other Health & Safety qualifications

Working Pattern
- 40 hours per week, 5 days out of 7
- Primarily Monday to Friday, with flexibility required during peak periods (including weekends)
